Parent Welcome Letter

Dear Parents and Guardians:

My name is August Raby and I am excited to share with you that I will be your child’s first grade teacher! I can’t wait to welcome you and your child to a year that is sure to be fulfilling both academically and socially!

I have been at Pine Road for 18 years and have taught in special education (grades kindergarten, first and third) and general education (first grade). I have been married for 15 years and we have two children who are in second and sixth grades. I attended Arcadia University for my undergrad and graduate degreases. I am heading back there this January to complete my Educational Doctorate when I am on sabbatical leave from Pine Road. As the year progresses I will be sure to set your child up for success with his new teacher come January. 

I truly believe that every child is capable and that all of them have the ability to succeed in school both academically and socially. It will be our job this year to help each child flourish! We recognize in our class that not only is everyone different we all have strengths and weaknesses. Just like every snowflake is different so are our children; you will observe that my approach with each child is unique and that is how I create lasting bonds with your child to make the most of our first grade year as well as assist them in not only acknowledging but also advancing any weaknesses they have.  I will often refer to our class as Team 58; you are an integral part of this team and I look forward to working together. 

During the first weeks of school, the children and I will spend a lot of time getting to know each other, building a classroom community, and emphasizing our classroom rules and routines.  

Along with helping your child throughout the first few weeks of school I am asking that you complete the Owl About My Child questionnaires. This form greatly helps me to get to know your student from your perspective and is a valuable resource for contact information if and when the need arises. Finally, the First Grade Supply List is available online. Please make sure to send in these supplies on the days listed on my website. If you have any questions about the supplies don't hesitate to ask!
